Greetings from Camp

Mr. Rix goes to pick up the boys from camp tomorrow. Thank goodness because in the mail today I received a letter from #1.

"Dear Mom and/or Dad,

What's up? Hey, Mom, the minute you left, I felt homesick. I cried!! I already miss you, and whenever you can pick me up, do it. PLEAZE! I'm miserable! How are you? Hope Siggy is o.k. Ozzy too. I can't wait to get home and watch cable t.v.! Miss you guys so much! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I'm having an ankle bleed. Uggh. TAKE ME HOME! I don't think I can take another shower. Let me tell you, those things are death pits. IT SUCKS HERE!!!

Love,

Sam

P.S. I'm in crutches so mobility up hills is very, very, very limited. Mom, right now during the night activity, I have literally cried for 1 hour. Not, you know, shedding tears, but truly BALLING [sic]. I am begging you with all of my heart to please pick me up. There is no way in all of time that I will never EVER enjoy this week. I need you to pick me up. I need to be out of this godforsaken campground. Never in my life have I cried so hard or felt the need to see you guys.

I love you more than you could possibly imagine.

Sam"

Wow, that was dramatic. It's nice that he missed both you and Cable TV!
I'm sure when he's picked up you'll hear raves about how the week went and the letter and it's sad comments will be long forgotten!

Wow, that letter is a keeper. Someday when the opportunity is right you can take it out and viola! Or just keep it forever, cause that is a pretty sweet letter. :)

Oh...we'll have some fun with this baby in a few years, you can count on that. :)

I would follow up with a lesson on the relative speeds of snail mail, email and phone calls. I bet Jennifer is right. G never wants to go to school and protests being left there, but everyday when J picks him up, he talks about how great it was.

aww. Poor kid. Remind me not to show this post to JG, who is already dead sure the Eldest can't go to camp next summer. Sigh.

(although to be fair, the idea seems pretty improbable to me, too)

When you said "in the mail", I thought you meant snail mail.

So the counselors control the outflow the campers email?

IDKNM, #1 son is all to familiar with snail mail vs. email. This is why the camp doesn't leave the campers with time for such things. Pluse, I think there was a "hold" put on that letter so that it would get to me too late to rescue him. After all, it is his 4th year there. They've come to know him quite well.

Which leads me to my hemo homegirl...Mama 'o. You and I both know that eldest would send exactly the same kinda letter home. If he's old enough, he should go. #1 and #2 have BFFs who go to camp each year...one has severe hemo B with an inhib and a connective tissue disorder...his twin just has the connective tissue thing. I stood with that mom last year as she checked her kids' meds in. She said that camp was the ONLY place she felt comfortable leaving those boys.

Eldest will be age ready for camp next year, right? Maybe we need to do a new video so he's ready. And mayby my eldest and youngest need to exchange emails.

To IDNKM (a.k.a I do not know me), Yep. I'm sure that after my son wrote that letter, the camp director waited a day to sent it. Mostly because she wrote a little note on the outside of the envelope saying that she'd been keeping an eye on him. As soon as he got home, he told us (me and Mr. Rix) that his cabin counselor took the time each night to privately check in with him and make sure all was well.

In fact, Sam's words were "Me and X had some quiet time before lights out. X made it all o.k."

IDNKM, you'll be happy to know that some of the kids did have the hots for the female counselors.

Of course, my own pubescent boys paid no attention.

Isn't it comforting to know that there are some constants in the universe like guys checking out chicks?
